Hiya!

First of all, thank you everyone for all the likes and reblogs and follows I’ve gotten. QuQ Means a lot to me~ Those really make me so happy and also make me want to do the best job I can and hope that someone will perhaps be inspired to do their own things from these too <3

Also, I just heard that my layout wasn’t working on all screen-resolutions~ o3o I changed it now and I really hope it works now and stuff can be seen. I’m still looking for a new layout, but hope this temporary one will work atleast. (just let me know if it doesn’t wah~)

Thank you and onvards~

Portal - personality sphere #2

I know I just posted a huge entry about this today…but I need to spam some more now…because I got a bit forward just now (not much, but it looks more than it is~

made some details (that are definately the first thing to do, but wanted. The side holes have a little different-coloured edge. did those~

will be smoothed a bit more and as the other part of sphere is grey, that line there is black~

also (even when it probably weren’t wise yet), I wanted to get rid of the polystyrene ball inside…so off it went! piece by piece!

other vice it went well, but the part on top of the ball looks like this. ohwell, will put some more fime there overnight to make it prettier and better~

it’s crude looking..but hollow now~<3

and tested the future ‘eye’ part in. fufu~ the outer shells still need lots of sanding, but it’s forminggg~ also need to find something ‘glasslike’ (some plastic) for the eye and also need to solve the problem of the light inside…working on ittt~

Portal - personality sphere

oki~ since it’s finally weekend (eventhoughIhavework), I could actually now at last catch up with this ‘making of’ (yah…I will post more often about what stage I’m in after this one…so this is just ‘where I’ve gotten so far’-post). I will do big things with this probably tomorrow (have to see, might just sleep since I seem to be sick) so it’s now or never X’D

Anyway! As an intro to this little thing: I love miniatures and I needed to have something to test things and different methods to. Also, I will somehow need to figure out some cores to my future ‘human GLaDOS’ cosplay. So what a better way to test and learn than this >u<

Unlike in Zilly, in this one I have kind of a ‘tutorial’ to go on. well..not exactly either hmmm. Actually it’s this one guy who has made a fabulous miniature spheres/cores (aghIstillgetmixedbythesetwowords). As the guy is an engineer and really has had the calculations, machinery, and knowledge to do stuff, I really am far away from what he has done with my n00b skillz. x3x
But yah…to show how awesome this fellow is, here are his cores. *dies of the awesomity* <3
and a video of how the things are constructed by him. Yups..if you watch it, he says he doesn’t want to do tutorials and that’s completely fine (more than fine, I’m totally with him in what he says. it’s part of the fun to learn and figure stuff out) . I could say also that I’m making his spheres be more like a guideline…an inspiration more likely. (and haha, not like I’d even try to make one to look the same and sell those or something! dude no.) I just need these for cosplay/my own entertainment X’D

tl;dr: this fellow is an awesome inspiration/idol to the little sphere I’m doing for fun and for my own use. u__u

and now I could ACTUALLY START WITH THE PICS!

Ok…so I will try, for the first time, molding stuff with plastic/resin-kind of stuff. Make plastic molds and then work with that. So what I’m doing now is the base of the whole thing which I will cast in much firmer and better material as they’re finished. (also, adding dates to these as in what days I’ve done what.)

[14.9.-11]
It all starts with a small polystyrene ball and air-dry Fimo. (left the ‘front’ open for easier hole-making that will happen next X’D
Why these two materials though? as the sphere needs to be hollow (until stuff like the eye is put in there, I constructed the thing over a polystyrene ball; it’s easy to take in pieces after I’ve got all of the outer shells and details done. And air-dry Fimo? It’s awesomely light, easy to work with and the main reason was the air-dryness X’D don’t want to throw this to the oven. It takes a while to dry though so every part of the process that needs to dry, takes about 24h.

(and at this part I will throw this under a cut. there’s 26 pics overall and I don’t want anyone’s dash to EXPLODE! so yah..just clock the ‘read more’ again to see the rest <3)

(since I’ve been wanting to buy a metallic cool looking one for ages. but there’s only really toy-like clunky looking…

YOU ARE ACTUALLY PLANNING ON MAKING THE POGO-HAMMER…. all my respect. all of it.

HAHA! yessssssss~ XD It had to get on my list right away! I am really intrigued how to make a cool one out of it, will have to start planning casually soon, maybe try to get it done before end of the year~ (and besides, Zilly would be sad alone, it needs a friend. U__U)
John’s weapons = win.

casually adding to the list of props I wanna make…

* Portal: mini-turret, with red led-‘eye’
(following my mini-sphere. Because miniatures make all better~ andaregoodfortestingstuff)

* Doctor Who: sonic screwdriver, 10th doctor.
(since I’ve been wanting to buy a metallic cool looking one for ages. but there’s only really toy-like clunky looking ones. I would make mine out of plastic too, but I wanna try to make it not look like a metallic one at least)

* Homestuck: Pogo-hammer
(yeahh…wanna see how that could be made. I got suggested this and I also love the werid design…and the ghost on top)

…I have a huge list already, but I’m dying to get to test to make all these~
also, if there’s something in mind that you’d like to see or something that would be a fun prop, just throw me suggestions~ >u<~

woosome:

It’s 99% finishedddd! (needs the Z to the yellow part and some colouring still) Yes…my very own Warhammer of Zillyhoo! X’D the thing I’ve been working on for past few weeks. ughhh….ok, gladly it looks better in pics than in real life…all my errors and ughhh (though the colours are much brighter IRL)
If I’d had a bit more time or money, I would’ve done some parts differently and more cleaner and all…but I’m still quite happy of how it turned out. As you can see..it’s also huge..but light yay~ >u<~

Siiiince I’m a shameless plug (and am just so confused from tumblr again + I want to keep all in order and accessible between blogs)
I’ll reblog this from myself and just casually add links to the actual tutorials of this whole monstrosity here:

making of zilly:  Part #1 (front parts) and Part #2 (the backside + painting)

also ps. the Z was added with a black marker (to make it clear, neat and fast~)

Warhammer of Zillyhoo - part #2

Edit! AGH! SO SORRY the ‘read more’-function doesn’t work here x___x;; sorry you will have so much to scroll. my appologies OTL

okii, since I’m on the roll…I’ll make the second part of this making of right away~

you can read the first part here.

Where we left of~ was this:

attached all the boxes and ready to start with the hardest part~ (I had so many plans for this but then went and bought wrong stuff to it so I had to, instead of styrofoam, make this out cardboard also! in the end…not such a bad idea…still light >u<~)
also, I found a good sized polystyrene ball and a star-shapes from a local arts&crafts-store (ball to the end and star to the middle of the zilly)

[again, this is where I put everything under a cut because of lots of pics and text explaining things. click ‘read more’ to, yah, read more X’D]

Then started the hard part. to make big enough and right shape out of cardboard. I really suck at measuring so all this is done just by eye and what looks about right (yah, not really helpfull am I?) so, I cut a circle out of cardboard that was the right size and glued it to the handle-box (the circle actually shows in the previous pic). Then I did this cylinder and and from the outside I taped it and inside I added some hotglue for the cylinder to stay in place. (no hotglue outside as the acrylics don’t really stick well to the glue)

then, after some twisting, turning, forcing the cardboard to go into shape (adding another cardboard cylinder there also so I can twist everything right, I have the shape. Added some good holding tape, I got everything to stay like I wanted. Note, the polystyrene ball is not attached there. (I put it the ball at it’s place LAST, after all else is done)

Then, because the black tape is good at holding but slippery and plasticy, I rolled everything up with some masking tape~ wuhah! so much taaaape!

Adding the polystyrene star. Cardboard, twisted it in shape, added the star at the end with tape. tape tape tape…and it holds like that >U< (yah, the star is supposed to be a bit differenttly there, different angle in the original…but at that moment I didn’t have the time to change the placement anymore X’D)

This is where my plan about styrofoam and stuff like that failed, so here is how I proceeded..with my original plan B~ (or well, plan B that I had to come up with because the first way didn’t work and I had 4 days to go to the con + didn’t have muchly money to put on this atm X’D)

so, as giving up was never an option (pfff), I proceeded to cover the twisty part (wtf is it called, oh well X’D) out of bits of newspaper + wallpaper glue (actually luckily had a package randomly in my carfts-stash x’D) so yah..some glue, some newspaper bits, some glue. Trying to make all as smooth as I can.

Also notice I started to paint it also. everything that isn’t touching the drying glue (or where the zilly stands on) gets some paint~ well, also the dark parts of the biggest box waited for later since I had to make two coats of the lighter blue.
The surface really wasn’t the smoothest and some of the masking tape was showing from under acrylic paints. that’s why I had to start this now as it took a bit to dry and all~ (still had 4 days whoop)

The next day I covered all the newspaper-parts with normal white paper + wallpaper-glue. just to get the surface that will be painted smooth and white enough (so the newspaper won’t show from under the paints)

little more painting also. double layers, more bits and pieces~

and day after that when the wallpaperglue-stuff had dried: MORE PAINTINGG!~ the lines (oh man, whic would’ve been smoother) and still checking that everything is smooth and no horrible color-lines or other stuff was noticeable~ also, careful with colouring the lines. If you have more time, do different  lines (the ones not touching eachother) on one day and rest on the other. as I had really limited time (2 day and still had to make my cosplay while doing this) I had to paint all in one night.

then a tip how to get the big square-markings clean on the biggest box: masking-tape. form the lines out of it. (this time I actually measured them! they’re the same size!…about atleast)

paint away happily over the masking tape also~ ladidaa~

take the masking tape off and voilá~ you have clean lines~ >u<~

The last things I did on the last day as everything had dried, was to paint the surface where the zilly had been stanging on all the time (only then did I finally close the box off with masking tape) also, when that was dried off, I attached the (allready painted, a few days ago) ball to the end of the whole thing with hotglue carefully.

And that was it. Ze zillyhoo was ready~ I will repost finished pics of it from my other tumblr (just to save on posting and irritating people who have allready seen it in different posts X’D

Thank you for looking this through and if there’s aaaany questions, I’d be happy to answer them >u<~

Warhammer of Zillyhoo - part #1

So yes, for Tracon this year (held early this month), I already decided that I wanted to cosplay John, specially the God tier version. As the con started to approach, I also decided that I wanted to have some prop to him…and what would be better than the might WARHAMMER OF ZILLYHOO, with all it’s colorful glory and everything~

(btw, I’ll reblog this later here, but just if you want to see the end results right away )

Oki, so, where I started was the basic shape…what would I need and how would I do it. First of all, it couldn’t be too heavy as I was supposed to carry it for the whole weekend.

I decided to do it simply out of cardboard boxes. I’ve seen a few different people who have made the zilly before, but I didn’t go for tutorials this time when I started with the actual thing, as I had a vague idea how to make this~ And so began the cardboard-box-collecting~ (gladly I got nice sized ones from work)
[though, noted here, whoa my Zilly is actually quiiiite big, compared to many others and the size in the comic, but well, atleast it wasn’t that heavy. It can be lifted easily with one hand~]

here’s my boxes for the base. Huge one, then few flat ones and the one I’m going to stick the handle in. As cardboard tends to be flimsy at times, I allready had plans to make them all stick together as snuckly as was possible.

(edited after writing: ok, and as the tutorial went kinda long, I’ve put pics and explanation under the cut. just click the ‘read more’ link and you can see the whoooleeee thing with more pics and all~ aghandthisisjustthefirstpartX’D)

current project ATM

I’m going to post the making off of the zillyhoo-hammer, but first, a sneak-peak of the thing I’m doing right now~

Portal personlity sphere~

Looking basically like this. (here’s Wheatley, who my little random sphere looks like the most probably x’D)

but anyways…here’s what I’ve done so far~

(whoabigpics..and lol, there’s actually my blood there X’DD I stuck my hand with a blade when doing this..DUNDUNDUNN!) but yah…the inner part moves up and down. The eye is going to move left and right also~

I ordered some molding-silicone and moldable liquid plastic yesterday…so this fellow is going to be done with real materials X’D we shall see~ posting ‘making of so far’ soon~
